Cup Water
Cup Sugar
Fresh Mint Sprigs
Pour 3 oz bourbon into a bowl, set aside
Pour 5 oz bourbon into a rocks glass and drink it (seriously, we need to remove 8 total ounces to make room for the simple syrup. We don’t waste good bourbon.
Pour remaining bourbon into a large bowl.
Pick 40-50 mint leaves and add to the bowl with 3 oz bourbon. Let Sit 15 mins.
Dissolve 1 cup sugar into 1 cup water by bringing mixture to a boil. Let cool.
Gather up bourbon-soaked mint leaves into a paper towel and ring them out over the same small bowl they were in. This is how we make the mint extract.
Pour simply syrup solution into the large bowl of bourbon.
Add 4 tablespoons of mint extract into the large bowl.
Return contents of the large bowl back into the original Woodford bottle, and allow to chill in the freezer overnight.
Enjoy your mint juleps in stainless steel glasses packed with crushed ice, mint garnish, and a straw!
